Jackson Christian fires head football coach
JACKSON, Tenn. — Jackson Christian fired their head football coach Monday morning, a move the coach said he knew was coming.
Todd Roland informed his players that he has been fired by the school, which he confirmed to WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News over the phone.
Roland said he knew since last May that this would be his last season but had not talked to his players about it because he didn’t want to distract them.
Athletic Director Scott Gatlin said the school was unavailable for interview but released a statement Monday afternoon.
“We are grateful for the contributions that Coach Roland has made during his tenure here,” Gatlin says in the release. “He has modeled Christ and demonstrated integrity as we have worked to rebuild our football program.”
Gatlin also says the Jackson Christian administration hopes to name a successor in a timely manner.
We’ll have more this evening on WBBJ 7 Eyewitness Sports.
