UT considering 3 finalists for Knoxville chancellor job

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – The University of Tennessee says it has narrowed its search for the next chancellor in Knoxville to three finalists.

The university said in a news release Monday that the candidates who made the final cut are Alexander Cartwright, Beverly Davenport and Pamela Whitten.

Cartwright has been the provost and executive vice chancellor at the State University of New York System Administration since 2014.

Davenport was named interim president at the University of Cincinnati this year.

Whitten has filled the role of vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of Georgia since 2014.

The university expects to name a successor to Jimmy Cheek by year’s end. Cheek resigned earlier this year to rejoin the university’s faculty after seven years as chancellor.
