Gibson Co. voters turn out for local decisions
GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — Election Day is finally here, and Americans are flocking to voting locations across the nation. Here in Gibson County, poll workers tell us voters were waiting outside Tuesday morning for them to open their doors at 8 o’clock.
“This is the fourth election that I’ve actually worked through,” Harold Pillow said. “And this has been the busiest that we’ve ever been.”
Gibson County was holding a number of important local elections this session, and voters in Medina say they know what they’re looking for in a mayor.
“And that’s what this community is looking for — to continue to grow and prosper and not get big like Jackson and not get big like Memphis, but to be a nice, hometown community,” Andy Reynolds said.
Humboldt residents were also voting Tuesday on whether to allow the sale of wine in retail food stores.
“If we get any taxes off of it, it should help the city of Humboldt on a tax base, and if you want it, you’re going to get it regardless,” Larry Morris said.
It’s no surprise the polling locations in Gibson County were crowded Tuesday afternoon, but even though there are a number of important races on the ballot, most voters said they were here for one in particular.
“Everyone’s talking about Clinton, Trump,” Chandler Blurton said. “It’s supposed to be the big thing, and it’s my first election, so I want to be able to say I got out and voted.”
At the end of the day, voters told us the one thing on their mind when they walked out of the voting booth is, “I hope I made the right choice.”
