AARP recognizes local veterans

JACKSON, Tenn.-Local veterans received a treat Wednesday at the monthly meeting of the AARP.

For the third year in a row, the group honored the veterans of the organizations. Each service member was presented with a commemorative pin to recognize the event.

With a total of five veterans present, each was given time to speak about how long they served and talk about their experience in the service.

“We love our country and as members of AARP, we are recognizing them on a local level. But also we’ll pause on Friday to just say a prayer for all the veterans of our country,” said Carolyn Lawhorn,

Many of the veterans who attended served in the Korean War. Close to 60 people attended Wednesday’s meeting.
