Area church honors veterans with special ceremony

JACKSON, Tenn.-A special event for veterans was held Wednesday night in Jackson brings out more than 120 people.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints honored veterans from throughout the community with a ceremony which included the presentation and folding of the flag.

With 40 veterans attending the ceremony, each was presented with a certificate of appreciation, a gift card and a
commemorative pin.

“I hope that they realize we have a deep appreciation for everything that they have done for our country and for what that will mean for our future and for our children’s future,” said Bishop Michael Pearson with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Dupree Davis, who served in the 93rd Infantry Division and was part of the Blue Helmets in World War II, earning the Bronze Star of Valor, received special recognition. He was given a special hand-made quilt, a proclamation from the governor and a key to the city from the mayor.
