West Tenn. voters have mixed reaction to Trump win
JACKSON, Tenn. — West Tennessee voters have mixed reactions about Donald Trump’s win over Hillary Clinton on election night.
Trump’s victory surprised some voters. “I didn’t expect Donald Trump to win,” Nicole Sears, of Jackson, said.
“The year that the Cubs win and Trump,” Peggy Spragins, a Trump supporter, said. “What could get better than that?”
Voters have mixed opinions about the next commander in chief. Some think he has what it takes to lead. “A successful businessman like Donald Trump may just be our only last hope,” Spragins said.
“Hopefully he can make a change,” Willie Lane Jr. said.
Others said they think Trump will run the country into the ground. “The wall, getting the Muslims out of the country, the Mexicans, it was all a big lie,” Betty Spice, of Jackson, said. “He ain’t gonna do a damn thing.”
“He basically lied to the people, and the people bought it,” Richard Rosser, of Jackson, said.
One thing voters talked about was unity. “We just need to get together as a whole and pray,” Lane said.
“I think a lot of healing needs to take place,” Spears said. “I think that he needs to unite us.”
For some, it doesn’t make a difference. “I still have to pay my bills,” Delores Taylor, of Jackson, said. “I still have to put gas in my car, so it really doesn’t matter.”
Donald Trump easily won Tennessee’s 11 electoral votes. Trump pulled 62 percent of the votes in Tennessee while Clinton received 34 percent.
