Bruins setting their sights on the state title game
JACKSON, Tenn — The last time the USJ Bruins made it to a state title game, they lost to St. George’s 28-23. Last season they found themselves one win away from appearing in their sixth state title game but fell short to NorthPointe Christian 38-14. This year, their ready to get over the hump.
“You know just to be in this position again, it’s pretty incredible, but we’re looking to finish the deal this year,” Peyton Taylor said, one of the Bruins running backs.
Their under a new coach this season in Rusty Bradley and from the time he took over the job, he made it loud and clear they would play winning football. He put it on the senior class to leave a legacy on how things should be done in the future for USJ football. With his approach to the team, it helped motivate the players and they bought in to his system.
“A lot of guys last year were kind of surprised to be where we were, but this year we expected to get this far,” said Taylor.
Stopping the Bruins from a shot at a state title is Lausanne, a tough high scoring team. But head coach Rusty Bradley says you have to look at it like it’s just another game.
“You can’t let how big the game is affect you,” Bradley said. “You’ve got to go out and play within yourself and be focused on the task at hand.”
The players have been in this spot before, so it’s something their familiar with.
“We’re focused, this is what we’ve been working for,” Taylor said.
The Bruins will take on Lausanne Friday for a shot at advancing.
