Arrest made in birthday party shooting

DYERSBURG, Tenn. — The Dyersburg Police have a suspect in custody in connection to the fatal Thursday night shooting at a 2-year-old’s birthday party in Dyersburg.

According to law enforcement officials, 30-year-old Torius Russell was arrested Friday morning in connection to the shooting that happened a little before 6:3o p.m. Thursday night.

Seven people were injured and at least one person has died after the shooting. A mother of two, 21-year-old Shanice Amerson, died at the scene.

The 6-year-old who was injured and flown to a Memphis hospital has since gone into surgery, but further details on the child’s condition has not been made available.

The Dyersburg Police Department is holding a press conference at 11:00 a.m. concerning developments in this case.
