IRS says beware of email scam

JACKSON, Tenn. — The IRS is warning taxpayers to be on the lookout for an email scam.

The IRS on Tuesday says they have gotten numerous complaints about emails containing fake CP2000 notices from the year 2015.

The emails appear to be coming from Austin, Texas, regarding tax bills about the Affordable Care Act.

The IRS says while the CP2000 is a commonly mailed notice, it is never sent by email.
