JACKSON, Tenn. — Along with wishing everyone a happy Thanksgiving, the Jackson Police Department has offered a list of safety tips for holiday shoppers.
The department’s Criminal Investigations Division offers the following safety tips as we enter the holiday shopping season.
1. Avoid shopping at night alone.
2. Make sure you lock your car doors.
3. Avoid making numerous trips to your car with multiple bags.
4. Store items in your trunk.
5. Park as close to the store front as possible.
6. Avoid carrying a purse or handbag. Instead, just carry cash or credit card in your pocket.
7. Be aware of your surroundings.
8. Ask mall or store security to escort you to your vehicle.
9. Keep a list of your credit cards and the numbers to call to cancel them in case they are stolen.
10. Avoid shopping with children. They can be a distraction that thieves will take advantage of.
11. When shopping online, do not allow websites to store your credit card information. If the website is hacked, your information will be used for unauthorized charges.
12. Plan on being home when online shopping deliveries are to be made.
13. Only shop on well-recognized, established websites.
