Memphis accepting applications for paid youth jobs programs
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Memphis has opened enrollment for its paid youth jobs and development programs.
The Commercial Appeal reports (http://memne.ws/2gVgKp5) the Memphis Office of Youth Services began accepting applications Thursday for its MPLOY Youth Summer Experience program and the Memphis Ambassadors Program.
Its website says MPLOY gives 14 to 21-year-olds meaningful summer work opportunities, while the year-round Ambassadors Program focuses on career, life-building and college preparation skills for high school students.
The office’s director Ike Griffith says this year, the city will employ 1,000 youths for six weeks and pay $9 to $12 an hour depending on age.
The city will also fill about 230 positions for the Ambassadors Program, which pays $100 to $500 per quarter depending on whether the students meet goals set by the city.
Applications are available at cityofmemphisyouth.org .
