Area kids “Shop with a Cop”
JACKSON, Tenn.-The Fraternal Order of Police, Jackson Police and Madison County deputies all came together Tuesday evening with the Salvation Army to help out children in need.
20 kids were referred by the Salvation Army to “Shop with a Cop” for the holiday season.
Each kid was given $250 to spend and got to shop for an hour.
Organizers said many of the kids wanted to buy for their families and other people in their lives and had to be reminded that they needed to buy for themselves as well.
“Hopefully that these kids will know that police are human, and that they’ll learn to talk to us instead of just seeing a badge and a gun,”said Lt. Jeff Shepard of the Jackson Fraternal Order of Police.
The kids gathered up electronics, clothes and food as well for the holiday season.
