Police: Man faces charges after being shot by homeowner during attempted robbery

JACKSON, Tenn. — A man police say was shot by a homeowner last week during an attempted robbery is now facing numerous charges.

Court documents say Sedrick Lavarous Yarbrough knocked on the door of a LaConte Street home around 7:30 p.m. Thursday and asked to use the phone.

Once inside, Yarbrough pulled a gun, pointed it at the homeowner’s head, pistol whipped him and demanded money, according to an affidavit.

The homeowner reportedly gave his wallet to Yarbrough and then lunged for the gun.

As the two struggled, the homeowner was able to fire the gun, hitting Yarbrough, who then fled on foot.

Shortly after the robbery, police responded to a call at a Dupree Street address where they made contact with Yarbrough.

Police say Yarbrough had a gunshot wound to his abdomen as well as injuries to his head and back.

Yarbrough faces charges including aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, attempted aggravated robbery, and employing a firearm during a dangerous felony with a prior felony conviction.
