Child dies after weekend shooting at Jackson motel
JACKSON, Tenn. — Police are investigating a shooting at a motel on Vann Drive that resulted in the death of an 11-year-old child.
Preliminary findings indicate the shooting was accidental, according to police.
Officers responded around 9:20 p.m. Friday to America’s Best Value Inn on Vann Drive and found that an 11-year-old had sustained a gunshot wound, according to a release from the Jackson Police Department.
The child was transported to a local hospital and then airlifted to Memphis. The child was pronounced dead at 7 a.m. Saturday at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.
The investigation is ongoing, and the body was sent for autopsy.
