USJ hires new head football coach
JACKSON, Tenn. — The University School of Jackson has hired Michael Stroup as their new head football coach.
After leading Scotts Hill to the quarterfinals in the playoffs last season and a 9-4 record, Stroup said the good lord put him in this position and he couldn’t be more excited to come to USJ.
After leading Scotts Hill to the quarterfinals in the playoffs last season and a 9-4 record, Stroup said the good lord put him in this position and he couldn’t be more excited to come to USJ.
“Sky’s the limit here man,” Stroup said. “It’s a lot of tradition here and there’s a standard of excellence that they want to be achieved here and everybody’s got expectations, but nobody’s expectations are going to be higher than mine.”
As he saw the opportunity for a new beginning, Stroup said, saying goodbye was one of the hardest things he’s had to do in a while.
“I’ve told a few people that you know, I lost my brother four years ago to cancer and that’s what it felt like telling them,” Stroup said. “That’s how much it hurt, but you know I told the kids that they’re going to be fine, they’re going to find somebody that’s going to do a better job than I did and you know, people got to move on and that’s what we’re doing.”
When asked what his first move as a Bruins coach would be, Stroup said, “win, win, and win some more.”
