Obion Co. Schools off soft lockdown after social media threat
OBION COUNTY, Tenn. — Obion County Schools were placed on a soft lockdown Thursday morning due to a threat posted on social media.
School leaders and police confirm they were notified of a threat on social media involving a school shooting.
School officials at Obion County say both Obion County Schools and Union City Schools were mentioned in the threat.
The threat did not mention a specific school in the Obion County School System, and all schools were included in the soft lockdown.
When a soft lockdown is in place, students and teachers can move around inside the school and parents can pick up students.
Police performed safety checks at the schools and did not find any evidence of a threat. They have since cleared the lockdown.
Obion County Schools are still in session, but they are allowing parents to pick up their children if they wish.
Traffic was backed up down the road in front of Obion County Central High School as parents lined up to pick up their children.
One student, a freshman at Obion County Central High School, told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News she saw the threat on Snapchat.
School officials say they are looking into who posted the threat and will take appropriate action once they are identified.
Officials with Obion County Schools say they plan to have school Friday on a normal schedule.
We’ll have more information and hear from school officials, parents and students this evening on WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News.
