Enhanced Risk for Severe Weather on Saturday
Weather Update – 10:15 p.m. – Friday
A Flood Watch is in effect for all of West Tennessee from now through 6 a.m. Sunday morning. A slow-moving cold front will bring showers and thunderstorms to the area, and widespread heavy rainfall is expected to come and go during that time period.
TONIGHT
Rain showers have become lighter for now and will slowly dissipate after midnight. The risk for severe weather is very low overnight, we’ll mainly have light and variable winds with low temperatures in the upper 50s and lower 60s on Saturday morning.
During the morning tomorrow, most of West Tennessee will be dry with a slight chance for a stray shower or thunderstorm. The chance for thunderstorms becomes increasingly likely after noon and especially after 3 p.m. when thunderstorms could become severe. Stay weather aware during the afternoon and evening – a Tornado Watch may be issued for the area with a cold front moving in on Saturday night. Most models show the front moving into West Tennessee between 6 p.m. Saturday and 12 a.m. Sunday when our primary risk for severe weather will take place.
A tornado is possible tomorrow, especially in the evening but the main concern lies with thunderstorms that could produce damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding. Strong winds could cause trees to fall down due to the saturated soils resulting in power outages Saturday evening. Make a plan on how to prepare with your family now and avoid flooded roads in West Tennessee at all costs.
