Free smoke alarm install event is Saturday in Bolivar

HARDEMAN COUNTY, Tenn. — The Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Bolivar Fire Department, and the American Red Cross of Mid-West Tennessee will install free smoke alarms Saturday in homes throughout Bolivar.

From 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 17, organizers, working with local volunteers, plan to target 200 homes during the one-day canvass, according to a release from the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance.

If you live in Bolivar and need a smoke alarm, use the State Fire Marshal’s Office online alarm request form.

For more information about this outreach event, including how to volunteer, contact SFMO Community Risk Reduction Coordinator Alex Daugherty at 615-574-0240.

The door-to-door event is part of the State Fire Marshal’s Office “Get Alarmed, Tennessee!” program, which aims to prevent fire deaths in Tennessee through the provision of smoke alarms and fire prevention education, the release says.

Since the “Get Alarmed” program’s inception in 2012, the SFMO has distributed over 163,000 smoke alarms statewide to 514 partnering organizations and have documented 223 lives saved from an installed “Get Alarmed!” smoke alarm, according to the release.
