U of M Lambuth hosts ‘For Freedoms’ art exhibit
JACKSON, Tenn. — With the midterm election just a little more than a month away, one local college campus is using using art as a way to inspire conversation leading up to the big day.
Local artists in the community gathered Friday night at an art exhibit on the University of Memphis Lambuth Campus.
It’s part of the national “For Freedoms” project.
Communities across the country are organizing billboards, lawn signs, town hall meetings and special exhibitions leading up to the midterms, intended to spark conversation around topics such as democracy, patriotism and religion.
“We are not trying to increase the divide in our country. With these events we’re trying to bridge the divide,” community arts activities organizer Lendon Noe said.
On the Lambuth campus, the “For Freedoms” project is sponsored by the art museum of the University of Memphis.
Organizers say a town hall is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Lambuth chapel.
