Church hosts annual Friends of Heart event
DENMARK, Tenn. — The Denmark Missionary Baptist Church hosted its annual Friends of Heart event.
“We have teamed up with Friends of Heart and West Tennessee Healthcare to have this program in our church every year,” Carolyn Fuller said.
She says it is important to raise awareness throughout the community.
“This is very important to our health, and this is just an awareness that we would like to bring to the members of our congregation and to our friends and family,” Fuller said.
Church member Vernita Glynn shares her personal experience with heart health.
“I was having the arm pain in the left arm, which is usually a sign for a heart attack, so I thought I was having a heart attack,” Glynn said. “Then I went to the hospital, got tested, and they diagnosed me with aortic stenosis.”
She also gave a speech, sharing with everyone in the crowd the importance of maintaining a healthy heart.
“We want to make sure everything is working,” Glynn said. “You don’t want to ignore your heart, which I wasn’t ignoring it, but some of the symptoms I passed off was something else. Any symptoms you might be feeling that is out of the ordinary, you need to go to your doctor.”
As part of the event, members from the Lift Wellness Center and Friends of Heart gave out screenings.
Health experts say to know your numbers and to check with your doctor if you feel any symptoms.
“Know your heart. Make sure your heart is healthy. It keeps you living is one thing, but this is your lifeline,” Glynn said.
