Memphis T-shirt company CEO killed in Costa Rica car crash
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A prominent Tennessee businessman has been killed in a car crash in Costa Rica.
News outlets report that according to representatives of his company, Memphis businessman 61-year-old Mike Bowen died Saturday. T-Shirt Champions confirmed the death of its CEO in a tweet.
Bowen was CEO and president of Champion Awards and Apparel and graduated from Memphis State University, which is now the University of Memphis. The company was the largest local licensee for the college’s merchandise.
Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland says in a statement that Bowen led the city in hiring employees with criminal records and advised his administration on helping people get second chances.
Bowen is survived by his wife and two sons.
