Man gets life in prison in shooting death of Memphis teen mother

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – A man has been found guilty and sentenced to life in prison for shooting into a crowd and killing a teen mother near historic Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee.

The Shelby County district attorney’s office says 22-year-old Kwasi Corbin was convicted by a jury in Memphis on Saturday of first-degree murder in the death of 18-year-old Myneishia Johnson.

Johnson, the mother of a young boy, was celebrating her upcoming high school graduation with friends when she was shot on May 22, 2016.

Prosecutors say Corbin pulled up to a stop light and began shooting into the crowd with a rifle. Corbin was arrested when he crashed his car during a high-speed chase.

Corbin was also convicted of attempted first-degree murder and using a firearm with intent to commit a felony.
