Nashville country artist and son bond through country music
ATWOOD, Tenn. — A Nashville man and his son are taking their horses to the Old Town Road and riding all the way down to Oklahoma.
C.J. Garton is a country artist and songwriter in Nashville, who has worked with record labels and made songs with some of the most well-known writers in the industry.
But for now, Garton and his son Clinton are on a journey to bond and inspire through country music.
Garton says he remembers the roots and depths of country music and how it spoke to him as a child. He’s eager to bring his 13-year-old son with him on this journey.
The path there, however, has not been easy.
Garton and his son say they learned about the trials they were going to face on the first few days of their journey.
“It didn’t even rain today, and my feet are soaking wet already, so I’ll change socks before we leave here,” Garton said.
But with the help of strangers along the way, they’ve gotten by.
“Every person we have talked to has been very kind and giving,” Clinton said.
“Ashley and everybody at Tractor Supply has been taking care of us,” Garton said. “The farmers at the Co-op in Dixon. I just want to brag about everybody who has helped us out.”
Garton says that the support and help they’ve received from strangers is the most incredible part.
“Honestly meeting great folks, getting the opportunity to walk up and be blessed, to be sitting in the yard you stayed at with people you’ve never met, and make friends for life,” Garton said.
“We’ve had to decline offers because we have so much,” Clinton said.
For Garton and his son, this journey is essential.
“If he can go 650 miles on horseback, anything he can do after this, he’s probably like, ‘I can tackle this. I can do this,'” Garton said.
“I feel like we have a pretty good relationship, but this will make it a stronger bond as well,” Clinton said.
Garton and his son are periodically stopping by veterinarian clinics throughout the journey, as well, to make sure the horses are in good health.
