Update on city of Jackson’s contract with Waste Management

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson mayor and Waste Management have released statements regarding accusations of broken contracts and threats to sue.

Last week the city of Jackson sent Waste Management a letter saying they believe their 2016 contract with the company has been breached.

The city says Waste Management is not picking up bulky items and failing to service all areas in their contract.

On Friday Mayor Scott Conger released the following statement: “The matter concerning the letter we received from the attorneys of Waste Management Inc. of Tennessee is still under review and we are continuing to evaluate.”

Waste Management also released a statement: “Representatives from Waste Management are meeting next week with Mayor Conger and his staff to discuss the waste collection contract. We’ll be determining our next steps after that meeting.”

Neither the city of Jackson nor Waste Management commented on whether or not any legal action has been taken so far.

Updates will be provided on-air and online as more information is available.
