Local university honors veterans during homecoming week

JACKSON, Tenn. — People came together to honor the men and women who put their lives on the line for our country.

Friday evening the University of Memphis Lambuth campus concluded their homecoming week with their first annual Lambuth Lantern Festival.

There were carnival rides, a live band and a 22-minute walk with all proceeds benefiting Mission 22.

Mission 22 is an organization that fights against veteran suicides.

“We have a significant veteran population at the University of Memphis, and so that’s why we chose this organization, and since it’s veterans month,” said Beth Ann Simpson, the coordinator of senior services.

Organizers say lanterns were released at the end of the night in honor of veterans.
