One day left to vote early

JACKSON, Tenn. — Since Saturday, 2,375 people have cast their early votes in Madison County.

How does that compare to other election years?

“Four years ago we did not have an incumbent running for president, so we had voted nearly twice that,” Kim Buckley, Administrator of Elections for Madison County, said.  “But, eight years ago we’re a little ahead of where we were.”

When you step into the booth to vote you’ll be casting a ballot for the presidential primary. You will have to declare if you’re voting Republican or Democrat.

And voting in Madison County is very simple.

When you walk in you fill out the application to vote, then hand them your state issued photo I.D. They’ll double check all the information, and then you’re headed to the voting booth.

Once you’re done, you get a sticker and can even take a selfie. From start to finish, it takes about less than five minutes.

Why is it so important to vote?

“I think it defines you as a person, as well as having a say in your state and federal government,” Buckley said.

Tuesday is your last day to early vote. The Election Commission will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Make sure you have your state issued photo I.D.
