The Life Church hosts drive through food pantry
MALESUS, Tenn. — Just in time for Easter, The Life Church in Malesus and the Mid-South Food Bank are handing out boxes of food to those in need.
“We usually send out approximately 150 boxes of food every time we’re open,” said Martha Moreno, Facilitator of Mid-South Food Bank at The Life Church.
But because of the COVID-19 pandemic, they plan on serving dozens more families.
“People have lost their jobs, and they just don’t have the money to buy food for their families, so we opened up to that,” Moreno said.
People who come by to get these boxes are getting meat, some sort of vegetable, and other food. But, The Life Church is also giving them something else.
As each person drove by, Moreno asked how she can help them and offered to pray for them.
“She’s having a hard time today, and normally we would go up and give her a hug and pray for her, but with the COVID-19, we can’t touch,” Moreno said.
And with so much uncertainty, they at least know they have someone to depend on.
“We’re like a family here,” Moreno said. “There’s no stranger. And once we get to know them and stuff, they’re just like part of our family.”
The food bank is in partnership with the USDA.
They distribute food on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. You will have to fill out some paperwork if you are in need of these boxes.
