Dr. George Pimentel new president of Jackson State Community College
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Tennessee Board of Regents has named Dr. George Pimentel president of Jackson State Community College.
The move will go into effect July 1, according to a news release.
Pimentel is currently the vice president of academic affairs at Volunteer State Community College, where he has been since 2014, the release says. Pimentel is a U.S. Army infantry veteran and has 26 years of teaching and academic administrative experience.
Pimentel is the sixth president of Jackson State in its 53 years. He will succeed Dr. Allana Hamilton, who now serves as the vice chancellor of academic affairs for the College System of Tennessee.
Dr. Jeff Sisk has served as interim president, and is also the president of the Tennessee College of Applied Technology-Jackson and Whiteville.
The Tennessee Board of Regents also appointed Brian Lapps Jr. to serve as general counsel of the Board and College System of Tennessee, the release says. Lapps has 27 years of experience as an attorney, and currently serves as division counsel for Vanderbilt University Medical Center, the release says.
