City of Jackson releases CARES act spending plan
JACKSON, Tenn. — The City of Jackson released a plan for its portion of CARES act funding.

The city announced through a news release on Wednesday that it was provided nearly $1 million after originally requesting $1.8 million in October.
The news release says funding will be used for:
- Employee bonuses — $675,589
- Non-FEMA eligible expenses — $25,685
- Dropbox and HelloSign — $32,836
- OpenGov permitting — $107,826
- Central Square (fire) — $75,000
The city believes that these expenses will provide a high return of investment, and improve access to city services during and beyond the pandemic, according to the release.
The city says OpenGov is a service that will allow the building and housing codes department to move permitting and inspections processes online.
The Jackson Fire Department is also wanting to use Central Square, a service also used by the police department, according to the release.
The release says switching to this software would improve cross-operations efficiency and communications with dispatch.
