Tokens singer Phil Margo dies
NEW YORK (AP) – Singer Phil Margo of The Tokens has died at the age of 79.
His family tells The New York Times Margo died Saturday in Los Angeles after suffering a stroke.
Margo and his younger brother Mitch founded The Tokens, which had a number-one hit in 1961 with “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.”
Besides his music career, Margo wrote for TV and movies and managed actor Robert Guillame during his “Benson” years.
The Tokens were touring up to 2017, when Mitch Margo died.
