Former McNairy County Circuit Clerk, wife both indicted for false time sheets
MCNAIRY COUNTY, Tenn. — A former McNairy County Circuit Court Clerk and his wife have been indicted after an investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office.
Byron Maxedon served as the circuit court clerk until he resigned in December 2021, while his wife Stephanie Maxedon worked as the deputy court clerk from October 2019 through April 2020.
A report states that investigators discovered several problems within the circuit court clerk’s office, including a failure of properly keeping up with time sheets.
Investigators determined that of the more than 1,000 hours reported on Stephanie’s time sheets, she was not working around 30% of the time. As a result, she received more than $3,000 for time she did not work and over $1,400 in county provided benefits.
According to the report, her husband was aware that a majority of her time sheets were not accurate.
The two were both indicted in February 2022 by the Madison County Grand Jury on one count of theft over $2,500, one count of official misconduct, and one count of false entries in governmental records.
