Stamp Out Hunger: RIFA partners for nationwide food drive May 14

JACKSON, Tenn. — RIFA is once again partnering with the USPS and the National Association of Letter Carriers for the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive.

Started in 1983, the largest one-day food drive in the country helps feed millions of Americans every year. It provides residents with an especially convenient way to donate food to those in need in the community.

“USPS customers simply leave their donation of non-perishable food items next to their mailbox before the delivery of the mail on Saturday, May 14, and their letter carriers will collect these food donations on that day as they deliver mail along their postal routes,” said Lisa Tillman, Executive Director of RIFA.

Participants are encouraged to place the food items in a sturdy bag or box. Some acceptable items include canned soup, canned vegetables, canned meats and fish, pasta, rice, and cereal.

All food items collected within Jackson will be donated to RIFA and will go toward helping local residents.

The donations are tax-deductible and will be picked up rain or shine.

According to a news release, the timing of this food drive is important as food banks begin to run low on donations from the winter and most school meal programs become halted for the summer.
