Firework sales point to well lit skies this weekend

JACKSON, Tenn. — The skies will soon be colored red, white and blue. And there are a few things to remember this Fourth of July.

Danielle Gartman and Erin Buhrmann with Deco Quality Fireworks says they have started to see sales ramp up.

“Definitely, absolutely. We have definitely seen an influx of customers come through the door. We have had to restock several times. We have had to go out to our containers and pull out fireworks everyday,” Gartman said.

Burhmann says since COVID-19, they have actually seen an increase in sales. And despite inflation, customers won’t see a big difference in prices. She says these are their biggest sellers.

“We have the two minute firework show. If I was going to come in and buy one thing for the Fourth of July to have a show it would be this one it is a show in a box. We have the canister shells, Neon Nishiki, death shell, Excalibur. All super loud and super colorful,” Burhmann said.

For those setting off those fireworks this weekend, Jackson Fire Marshal Lamar Childress says there are a few rules to follow to stay safe.

“Never allow young children to handle fireworks. Never use fireworks while you have been impaired by alcohol. Anyone using fireworks or standing nearby should wear protective eye wear. Never hold a lit firework in your hands. Only use them away from people, homes, and flammable materials,” Childress said.

Childress says you are not allowed to set off fireworks in the Jackson city limits, as well as in Madison County. But says there will be firework shows available to enjoy the holiday.

“At McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport, the Firefighters Freedom Fest is hosting a fireworks show for the Fourth of July and a bunch of family events that will be great for any of the citizens of Jackson,” Childress said.

Although setting off fireworks is not permitted in Jackson and Madison County, there are several areas in West Tennessee where it is permitted. That includes:
