TN Supreme Court Chief Justice visits Jackson, talks future of courts

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson Rotary Club hosted a special guest on Wednesday.

Chief Justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court Roger Page attended Wednesday’s Rotary Club meeting.

At the meeting, Page spoke a little on his life growing up in West Tennessee and about the future of the state’s justice system.

Page said that in the future, the state is allocating around $5 million to begin creating mental health courts.

These courts will be for those affected by mental illness, drug addiction, or other mental health related issues.

Page also spoke about how nice it was to be home and how much West Tennessee meant to him.

“And we’re trying to start courts to give those people the attention they need, and not just put them in jail and leave them there to serve time,” Page said. “Through the leadership of our Speaker of the House, Cameron Sexton, appropriated a little over five million dollars to start mental health courts around the state, and we should be getting another five million in this next budget, we’re hopeful we will.”

“I’m very happy to be from Chester County, Chester County High School,” Page continued. “I lived for many years in Madison County, and as I said earlier, most of my relatives live in Henderson County, so this was a district made for me.”

The Jackson Rotary Club will meet again next week on Wednesday at noon.
