Construction details of new Pope School discussed at Thursday meeting

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Madison County Commission held its agenda review Thursday afternoon.

There were many topics discussed, but one of note is the budget of the new Pope School.

Currently the budget is $48 million.

It’s $44 million to build the school building, with an additional $4 million to furnish it.

$36 million comes from a government bond issue, while the other $12 million comes from the American Rescue Plan Act that was designated to be used for school constructions.

“We’re into the early design stages right now, the traffic studies are being completed, Orcut Winslow was the architect and engineer that’s been hired for that project,” said Madison County Finance Director Karen Bell. “Hinson Construction will be doing the building construction of it.”

Officials say construction of the Pope School will hopefully begin late spring or early summer of 2023.
