South Side High School parent criticizes school’s communication on potential threat

JACKSON, Tenn. — South Side High School went under a soft lockdown Thursday around 10 a.m.

Parents were notified of the soft lockdown through an email sent out by the school.

However, in the email, parents say the details about what was happening were vague.

Tiffany West is a parent of a South Side High School student.

She stated in the email she received, a message was floating around the school regarding a school shooting.

However, any details about the message or a resolve of the issue were excluded.

“I appreciate them putting our kids on lockdown because it will keep them safer, but when they send me an email like that, I feel like they should tell us why,” West said.

While parents say they are appreciative of the notification, some say they are frustrated at the school for not stating exactly what happened and what the resolve was.

West says she believes there is a lack of transparency about the issue.

“I just want them to do better,” West said. “I want them to be more transparent. I think that they should be able to, I think they should tell us parents what is happening at the school and the risk that our children may or may not be under. Just so we don’t have to worry when we get emails like this.”

We reached out to the Jackson-Madison County School System who did confirm there was an email sent out and the school did go on a soft lockdown, however no additional information was made available.
