Gibson County man wanted for attempted murder
DYERSBURG, Tenn. — The Dyersburg Police Department is seeking the public’s help in locating an attempted murder suspect.
Police say 33-year-old Darius Riding, of Gibson County, is wanted after a shooting incident in Dyersburg.
According to police, officers responded to the Econo Lodge on Silver Road around 12:30 a.m. Saturday in reference to a shooting, where officers discovered a 40-year-old male victim had been shot.
A release states an investigation revealed that the victim was at the motel with the mother of Riding’s child, when Riding opened fire on the victim. After being struck by gunfire, the release says the victim was able to crawl under a parked vehicle.
According to the release, after firing multiple rounds at the victim, Riding then placed the gun to the female’s head before fleeing the scene in a white Ford Mustang.
Riding is now wanted by the Dyersburg Police Department for attempted murder and aggravated assault. The release says the victim was taken to West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg before being transported to a Memphis hospital.
Additionally, police say 22-year-old Daniel Isaac Weekly was arrested for filing a false police report concerning the incident. According to police, Weekly allegedly made a false statement to law enforcement in an attempt to hinder the officer from apprehending the suspect. A release says evidence collected disputed Weekly’s claim that he did not witness the shooting. Weekly is currently in custody at the Dyer County Jail pending further action.
Anyone with information on Riding’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Dyersburg Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division at (731) 288-7679 or contact Crime Stoppers at (731) 285-TIPS.
