’20/20′ episode to examine teacher’s abduction of Tennessee student
A special two-hour “20/20” episode will examine a Tennessee teacher’s abduction of his 15-year-old student.
In 2017, 50-year-old high school teacher Tad Cummins took Elizabeth Thomas from her hometown in Maury County after illicit behavior that began in his classroom came to light.
The abduction prompted a 38-day national search that made headlines around the country before the pair were found at a cabin in rural California.
The episode will feature new interviews with state and federal investigators and prosecutors that helped bring Cummins to justice, as well as interviews with family members of both Cummins and Thomas.
The program also includes never-before-broadcast interrogation footage of Cummins, discussing the nature of his relationship with Thomas.
“20/20: A Captive Student” will air at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2 on ABC and will be available next-day on Hulu.
