Exit 87 BBQ expands, merges with local saloon

JACKSON, Tenn. — For around 15 years, Exit 87 BBQ has been in business and serving great barbecue to their customers. And that service is expanding.

Exit 87 BBQ will be opening a new location with an all new look and name, but will have the same great tasting barbecue.

Owner Joshua Wadley said he started out with a pick-up truck and a grill in the middle of a parking lot nearby the current location. He adds it began with the determination to be successful and to not go back to prison.

“One butt of barbecue turned the next day into two butts, three butts, and we just kept on selling ribs. And we grew and was able to buy this property, that property back there, and start developing,” Joshua Wadley said.

“I’ve been coming here for over 10 years. I mean, it has been a long time off and on. The barbecue is great, the people are really nice people, and I’ll continue to give them my business,” said Andy Reed, an Exit 87 BBQ customer.

Exit 87 BBQ will be going to the south Jackson area, located where Becky’s Red Dog Saloon Bar and Grill currently is.

Becky’s Red Dog Saloon has been around for 35 years now. They have been at the south Jackson location for 16 of the 35 years.

It has been a staple in the Jackson area, with owner Rebecca Carey serving great food and bringing many customers joy over the years.

She has now decided to retire and pass the torch over to Wadley.

Wadley says that the name will stay Red Dogs to honor Carey and to keep the tradition alive.

The menu items that are currently at Red Dogs will remain, but the menu will come with the addition of items from Exit 87 BBQ.

“I just want to thank everybody for supporting me for all of these years. Whether it has been good or bad, we have got a lot of memories,” Carey said.

Co-owner of Exit 87 BBQ, Tiffany Wadley said that the Red Dog building has already had some history of barbecue being made there.

“The building actually was my grandparents’ building. They had Mr. B’s BBQ I would say for about 25 years,” Tiffany Wadley said.

Grill Master Rashad Woods expressed his excitement to be at the new location.

“I’m really excited about it. It’s like better opportunities, more jobs for people, it’s a great place to work, friendly environment, and family oriented,” Woods said.

“We look forward to merging 87 BBQ and Becky’s Red Dog together. It’s just amazing to have multiple locations and carry on the history of 87 and Becky’s Red Dog together. It’s just going to be wonderful,” Joshua Wadley said.

The merging of both businesses will begin on March 1.

Becky’s Red Dog Saloon can be found at 1450 South Highland Avenue.

Exit 87 BBQ can be found at 2049 Highway 70 East in Jackson.
