Officials respond to potential threat at Jackson school

JACKSON, Tenn. — Some parents were left concerned after they received an email from Rose Hill Middle School, concerning an increase in safety at the school Thursday. This increase came after a threat was made that concerned administration.

“It’s just a reminder that we take all of these incidents, whether it’s a potential threat, we take all of these seriously,” said Greg Hammond, Chief of Public Information at Jackson-Madison County Schools.

Jackson-Madison County School System officials did confirm with us that the threat came in the form of an image from social media. This social media post was not made during school hours.

Hammond says that Rose Hill Middle School already has a school resource officer on duty at all times, but after the threat Thursday, they collaborated with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office to obtain four more officers to add an extra layer of security.

Hammond says communication and transparency with parents about what happens at school is what makes the Jackson-Madison County School System safe, and that circle of communication is vitally important.

The school system says they felt it was important to notify parents the night before so they did not arrive at school to drop their children off and be alarmed.

This threat will continue to be investigated.
