Medina native interns for state legislator
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A Medina native has been interning for one of our state’s lawmakers.
Virginia “Nikki” McFarland has been working as a legislative intern for Sen. Ken Yager, of Kingston, according to a news release.
Her work with the senator has included writing press releases, writing about legislation, and coordinating social media efforts for the Senate Republican Caucus.
“Virginia has been an excellent addition to our office this year,” Yager said. “We have a very busy office, and Virginia has demonstrated great competency and a strong work ethic. The office staff and I have been very impressed with Virginia, and we are grateful for all her work. I am confident she will have a bright future.”
The release says that McFarland is a graduate of South Gibson County High School, and is expected to graduate from Middle Tennessee State University in May.
She is working to earn her degree in Political Science concentrated in Public Policy and Management with a minor in International Relations.
“Virginia’s work for the Senate Caucus is excellent. She is very bright and talented. She works hard while performing her duties and does them with a smile,” said Sen. John Stevens, of Huntingdon.
According to the release, she plans to enter the workforce full-time in order to gain experience and further her education by pursuing a master’s degree in Counter-Terrorism and Homeland Security.
