Weakley County woman sentenced to 8 years for meth distribution
WEAKLEY COUNTY, Tenn. — A Weakley County woman has been sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to drug charges.
A press release from the U.S. Department of Justice states that 34-year-old Amy Marie Mitchell, of Dresden, pled guilty to possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute.
The release says that information presented in court indicated law enforcement became aware in July 2021 that Mitchell, along with her co-defendant, Robert Gearin, were distributing crystal meth in and around Weakley County.
According to the release, investigators worked with a confidential informant on July 15, 2021 to purchase around 13 grams of meth from someone who obtained the drugs from Mitchell and Gearin’s home in Dresden.
The U.S. Department of Justice says on October 21, 2021, officers executed a search warrant at the defendants’ home, where they seized nearly 400 grams of meth, plastic baggies, three sets of digital scales, a pistol and ammunition, and a police scanner.
The release says the Drug Enforcement Administration laboratory later confirmed the seized methamphetamine was 97% pure.
Through witnesses and further investigation, the release says that officers learned the pair had sold about four pounds of meth in the Weakley County area over a four-month period.
According to the release, Mitchell pled guilty to the charge on March 6, 2023 and was later sentenced by U.S. District Judge S. Thomas Anderson. The release also states that Gearin pled guilty to similar charges and is awaiting sentencing.
The case was investigated by the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the 27th Judicial Drug Task Force, and the DEA.
U.S. Attorney Kevin Ritz thanks Assistant U.S. Attorney Josh Morrow, who prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, along with the law enforcement partners.
