Audrey Marie Cole Sanders
Audrey Marie Cole Sanders, age 100, resident of Somerville, Tennessee, departed this life Tuesday evening, July 11, 2023 at her home.
Audrey was born May 28, 1923 in Somerville, the daughter of the late John Wilson Cole and Cleo Inez Gay Cole. She graduated from the Fayette County Public School System and from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing through Memphis State in 1947. She was employed with the United States Cadet Nurse Corps followed by working at Armstrong Clinic where she was the head nurse and Dr. Jack Armstrong’s surgical nurse.
Audrey was married September 24, 1947 to Jesse Allen Sanders, Jr. who preceded her in death on March 23, 2021. She was a member of Feathers Chapel Baptist Church in Somerville and her hobbies included going on trips with her friends, antique shopping, bird watching and reading.
Mrs. Sanders is survived by her son, John Sanders (Linda) of Somerville, TN; three grandchildren, Angela Dycus, Tiffany Sanders and Bailia Chomyk; and two great-grandsons, Ian Dycus and Michael Chomyk.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Allen Sanders who died June 24, 2002 and three sisters, Laverne Cole Gray, Genevieve Cole Adams and Elizabeth Gay Cole Paisley.
A visitation for Mrs. Sanders will be from 1 until 2 P.M. Friday, July 14, 2023 at Warren Community Church. Funeral Services with Nurses’ Honor Guard Honors will be at 2 P.M. Friday, July 14, 2023 at Warren Community Church with Dr. Kenneth “Ken” Culver officiating. Interment will follow in the Somerville City Cemetery.
