Teen winners crowned as pageant week returns to Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. — Miss Tennessee Teen Volunteer crowned their winner Sunday night at the Carl Perkins Civic Center.

This event consisted of 49 young girls competing for titles of Miss Tennessee Teen Volunteer and Miss Iris Tennessee Teen.

25 young ladies competed in sections including talent, athletic wear and evening gowns.

With only a few more hours of being crowned as Miss Iris TN Teen, Townsend Blackwell shared how she was feeling.

“Currently I’m feeling a lot of emotion,” Blackwell said. “I’m feeling really sad obviously, we had a huge cry session this morning just cause we don’t obviously wanna give up our crown, but we are so excited for the next queens, but we are also really happy because we had a successful year.”

Blackwell also mentions that this year, she and Annie Zhao have accomplished so much during their reign.

As ladies in the Miss Teen Volunteer competition showcased their talents to the judges, current title holder Annie Zhao, Miss Teen Volunteer, shared her favorite part of the pageant.

“Talent, because then you can see what everybody is so artistic and talented and just well versed in, and I think that showcases every woman’s brains with the beauty that they present with them,” Zhao said.
