Police say neighbor dispute leads to shooting, attempted murder arrest
DYERSBURG, Tenn. — A West Tennessee man is behind bars after police say a neighbor dispute led to a shooting.
According to the Dyersburg Police Department, officers responded to a shooting near Vaughn and Watkins Street around 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Police say that upon arrival, officers discovered a 32-year-old Dyersburg man suffering from a gunshot wound near his neck.
According to police, witnesses on scene identified 70-year-old Terrence West as the shooter, who left the scene prior to the officers arriving.
The victim was transported to a hospital in Memphis to be treated for his injury.
Dyersburg Police say later that night around 11 p.m., an officer located West’s vehicle parked in the back of a residence on Doyle and Fakes Street, where West was found inside the vehicle and refused to surrender.
According to police, West eventually surrendered after additional officers and a K9 officer arrived to the scene.
Police say that after a brief struggle, West was taken into custody and charged with attempted first degree murder.
Additionally, police say suspected methamphetamine was discovered inside the vehicle, and West was also charged with possession of a Schedule II drug.
According to Dyersburg Police, the shooting incident allegedly occurred over a dispute that occurred earlier in the day.
Records available online indicate West currently remains in custody at the Dyer County Jail.
