What to do to still have fun amid heat wave
JACKSON, Tenn. — With the heat wave coming in full force, what are some solutions to still have fun while staying safe?
WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News Reporter Ryan Hodges spoke with some people at the Jackson-Madison County Library about things they offer on how kids can have fun while staying out of this dangerous heat.
“We have a great sitting area, as you can see behind me, where people can sit and watch television. We keep it turned down very low. We have magazines to read, newspapers to read, books of course, and all kinds of activities. We have a maker’s space. A lot of things you can do while sitting here,” said Dinah Harris, with the Jackson-Madison County Library.
We also spoke with the Jackson-Madison County School System regarding physical education and recess when temperatures begin to rise to these levels. They look at a set of guidelines to keep their students safe.
“Well, the temperature, of course, we know the heat index is based on temperature and humidity. The length of time outdoors, which recess is typically thirty minutes or less. So that’s the main thing that we look at. Looking at the temperature and the heat index,” said Wilson Annette, with the school system.
