West Tennessee teacher appears in court after assault arrest

CLARKSBURG, Tenn. — A local teacher appears in court after being arrested for assault.

According to Dr. Lisa Norris, Director of Schools at the South Carroll Special School District, Charles Michael Stanford was placed on suspension status on August 31 after allegations arose of unprofessional conduct toward a student.

Stanford is a teacher at Clarksburg School, located at 145 Clarksburg Road in Huntingdon (Clarksburg).

Dr. Norris stated in a social media post that the incident was turned over to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation.

According to records available online, Stanford was booked into the Carroll County Jail on September 1 before later being released on bond.

Wednesday morning, September 6, Stanford appeared in court in Carroll County to be arraigned.

According to court staff, the case was reset for a hearing to be held on November 1.

At this time, information as to what led up or happened during the incident is limited. We have reached out to authorities at the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office for further information, but have not received a response at this time.
