Reelfoot Lake Pelican Festival returns in October
The 11th Annual Pelican Festival is returning to Reelfoot Lake October 20-22.
Katrina Greer, Administrative Assistant for Reelfoot Lake Tourism Council, states:
The white pelicans started arriving at Reelfoot Lake in mid-September and will make our lake their home until the weather turns colder. When the temperature gets near freezing, they will continue their migration south. The white pelicans do not dive for fish but rather gather in a group and herd fish for feeding. This feeding pattern is interesting to watch, and they often sit on logs and stumps just below the water level making them visible for viewing especially in the Keystone Pocket and Champey Pocket areas of Reelfoot Lake.
