Old Country Store hosts event for National Disability Employment Awareness Month

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Old Country Store hosted the 2nd annual celebration luncheon in support of National Disability Employment Awareness Month on Tuesday.

Employment programs and those with disabilities were highlighted in the celebration.

Some of those employment programs in the City of Jackson are are Kroger and McDonalds

It is important to have programs like this because the State of Tennessee is an employment first state.

This is an idea about how to help people with disabilities get good jobs.

Nine Tennessee state agencies work together with the private sector through an employment first task force.

All of the work feeds into one statewide goal, which is a five percent reduction in the employment gap for people with disabilities versus those without disabilities.

“They just need chances, they make some of the best employees you can have, and they become like family to us,” said Stephen Gordon, the Kroger Customer Service Manager and HR Representative.

National Disability Employment Awareness Month reminds us of the valued contributions people with disabilities make in our nation’s workplaces.
