Open house held for JSCC Criminal Justice Department
JACKSON, Tenn. – A local college showcased one of their programs to high school students.
Jackson State Community College kicked off their first open house for the Criminal Justice Department.
Dozens of local students came to the campus to learn more about the program.
“We’ve got over 70 students here today to go through to see our program, to understand local law enforcement. Jackson Police Department representatives are here, Tennessee Highway Patrol representatives are here,” said Tommy Cepparulo, the Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice.
The new certificate JSCC is offering allows students to get in the workforce in less than a year.
“We have a great collaboration right now with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. We’ve already had them on campus recruiting our criminal justice students, and I think in the last count, we had three or four that were already about to go to work for them,” Cepparulo said.
This open house also allowed students to learn more about Tennessee Promise as well as seeing the college’s recent equipment purchases.
“The program here has went from about eight students to 120 students now. So we’re really even trying to double that program as well. We’re wanting students to understand that they don’t have to travel far off to get a great criminal justice degree. It can just be right in their backyard,” said Cepparulo.
Current criminal justice students at JCSS were there to help and answer questions as well.
They plan on having another open house for anyone to come to in the future.
